After consulting with the travel agency today, mainly about our problem with car rental and Niagara/Canada. It seems it's not possible to rent a car in Canada and drop it off in the US. So they gave another option and a small change and that might save some money.
Since we would be going to New York after Niagara, he advised to go to New York first and then take a flight to Bufallo, rent a car there and drive to Niagara Falls in Canada. This way we save on car rental because you don't need a car in New York and you'd have to park the car in a safe parking lot which also costs money. And the flight from NY to Bufallo can be combined in our main fight tickets so it actually costs nothing. Our fight tickets would cost 599eur per person, which is 4euros less than last time. Plus we save on 4 days of car rental+parking lot costs. And we can rent the car in the US and just drive it into Canada, no problem. As we stay 2 nights in Niagara, we can do a day trip to Toronto as well. After Niagara we drive straight to Philadelphia, which might be a bit less traffic than going to New York.
