Finally did the second entry of this category. Have been forgetting to get more movies here. Anyway, here's the second one, I saw yesterday: Shutter.
General info
Title: Shutter
Year: 2008
Languages: Engelish and some Japanese
Actors: Joshua Jackson as Benjamin Shaw
Rachael Taylor as Jane Shaw
Follow up:
Short synopsis:
Benjamin Shaw is a good photographer who just got married to Jane. Because he got a good job offering in Japan, they combine their honeymoon with his work and go to Japan. The first days they go to the countryside and at night they run over a girl, who then disappears. Jane is determined to find the girl, and finds that some of the pictures they took contain white flashes, which a friend of hers identifies as spirit photos. It seems that the dead girl is following them in their dreams and photographs. Who is this girl and what happened to her? And what is the connection between her and the newlyweds?
Personal opinion:
It's a bit of a predictable movie. They try to make an American version of an Asian horror movie, but try to not Americanize it by having a Japanese director and keeping it in the same style as an asian horror movie. It's also a remake of a Thai horror movie from 2004.
Mistakes (intentional or not)
- when Ben says to his wife that her next stamp in her passport will be Japanese, that's not entirely correct. you don't get the usual stamp when entering Japan, you get a kind of sticker in it.
- they seem to drive by car from Narita Airport, and drive over the Rainbow bridge from Odaiba to central Tokyo. It's not impossible, but less likely.
Otaku references
- none
Picture of Japan
- Mount Fuji
- Rainbow Bridge
- Shinjuku
- Pachinko Parlour
Personal score: 5.0/10
