After seeing the first episode of Macross Frontier at the end of last year, I was very impressed both by the visuals and by the music. Since about 2 months now the series has kicked off and I must say the visuals keep me amazed. I love the way the concerts and music of Sheryl are combined with the life & death fights that Alto is facing in space. Combining this with a love triangle between Alto, Sheryl and Ranka. And btw, I think Ranka's cell phone is awesome, you'll have to see it for yourself ;p
Follow up:
Now the the first OST CD is out and I was able to listen more carefully to the music. The cd features character songs from Sheryl and Ranka and some great orchestral music from Yoko Kanno. I especially like the character songs from Sheryl as they sound like real pop star songs. There are three tracks right after each other that have the feel of being recorded during a real concert. I would love to see such a concert in the future if it would ever were to happen ;p The music from Yoko Kanno is also very good, but some songs sound like being a clear variation on Star Wars with some Matrix and Pirates of the Caribean in it as well. That is not necessarily a bad thing, and anime soundtracks have done so in the past as well. In the My Otome soundtrack from Kajiura Yuki there is a song that has had a large influence from The Matrix, and even Neon Genesis Evangelion has a song with a big James Bond influence. But that doesn't necessarily make it bad songs as the music is still very good and fits the theme.
I would love to see more of the nice visuals and more of the good music, especially songs from Sheryl Nome ^^;
